How Group Therapy Can Help

Group therapy is an established and effective therapeutic modality with some distinct advantages. In addition to being more affordable, it provides a unique opportunity to explore obstacles to close and satisfying relationships by looking at the interactions you have with other group members. There is support and encouragement in group, and most people find comfort in realizing that their struggles are shared by others. However, the most powerful aspect of group occurs when group members take the risk to be open and honest about how they perceive each other. When this happens you get the chance to learn new things about yourself and practice new ways of relating to others.

While there is a wide range of problems that people in group are working on, everyone has two goals in common—they want to feel better about themselves and they want to be more successful in their relationships. It is my job to find a group where you will feel like you have enough in common with the other members. Unlike other types of therapy, the initial private consultation for group is free so that you and I can determine whether or not one of my groups is a good fit for you.

For a more detailed explanation of what takes place in group and how it can be helpful, you can read my article Making group therapy work for you.”
